Melissa Kaufman, MS, LPC, CSAC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
Melissa is a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, who works with individuals experiencing concerns with mental illness and/or substance use. She also conducts Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA) assessments. Whether the assessment is needed for legal reasons or to return to work, she is able to help.
Melissa works with children, adolescents and adults in both individual and group therapy formats. Melissa strives to provide a comfortable and understanding environment for each individual, in order to help fuel positive change. She feels that each person has the will to change and they may need some outside guidance to help them find the right approach, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, strength-based, and Motivational Interviewing, among other techniques.
Melissa is also trained in Brainspotting, which is a trauma processing intervention, and incorporates that technique into her practice, when appropriate, to help individuals who may be struggling with trauma, either past or present.
The primary issues Melissa worked with include mood disorders (depression, anxiety, etc.) substance use concerns and trauma. She feels that meeting the individual where they are at and using the therapeutic relationship to move into healing is most important.
Melissa is available on Wednesdays, and will have more availability during the week in the upcoming year.
