Treatment of Children
and Adolescents
Our experienced therapists at EFCC have specialized training in the
assessment and treatment of children from preschool through adolescence.
Specific treatment approaches are offered to address developmental,
cognitive, emotional and behavioral concerns through the use of play
therapy, cognitive behavioral strategies and parent and school consultation.
A multi-disciplinary approach is used at the clinic which utilizes
the resources of our psychiatrists, psychologists and master's level
therapists to customize treatment to the individual needs of the child
as well as his/her family.
Psychological Assessment
Thorough psychological assessment is available as an aid in diagnosis
and treatment planning for the full range of cognitive and emotional
problems and disorders. Test procedures are chosen to answer specific
questions and testing, can be both brief, such as behavioral questionaires,
or more extensive, involving full batteries of tests. Assessment is
available for school and behavioral problems such as learning disabilities
and ADHD as well as for other more general problems.
Addictions Treatment
Members of our staff treat individuals who seek help with alcohol
abuse, other drug abuse, or gambling. We also see those who have co-existing
disorders such as substance abuse and mood disorders. Outpatient services
include assessments, individual and family treatment which emphasizes
a motivational enhancement approach and relapse prevention.
Trauma Recovery and EMDR
Depending on individual needs, various methods are employed to treat
those who have suffered trauma. Several clinicians are trained in
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) which seeks to simultaneously
desensitize the individual from traumatic memories and restructure
thinking about these memories. EMDR is a highly effective approach
to trauma.
Grief Counseling
Individual psychotherapy is available for those dealing with grief
around death and dying and other losses such as those due to divorce,
illness, job termination, moving, and children leaving home. Referrals
to community support groups can be made as needed.
Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy
A proven approach to control depression and anxiety. The combination
of mindfulness, meditation and cognitive restructuring is offered
in both individual and group format.
Hypnosis
Dr. Haven offers hypnosis as a specialized aid for dealing with the
anxiety and stress which can exacerbate serious illness such as cardiac
disease or interfere with recommended health compliance (e.g. stress
and anger management, smoking cessation, weight control). Hypnosis,
when used appropriately, is a useful tool for promoting healthful
lifestyles and for increasing the effectiveness of many treatment
procedures.
Women's Services
EFCC offers services to women whose functioning is compromised by
the interplay between the stress in their lives and their hormonal
climate. Periods of high risk/vulnerability include pregnancy, postpartum,
premenstrual, perimenopause and menopause.
Family Conflict Resolution Services
Marital Psychotherapy
Many of our therapists specialize in marital psychotherapy utilizing
an integrative approach which involves helping individuals to
better understand and value each other and their relationship.
This approach is particularly useful for couples with difficult
issues such as dealing with affairs, separation, and strong differences
of opinion about child rearing. Couples working on reconciliation
following consideration of divorce are especially welcomed.
Collaborative Law Services
EFCC has a collaborative law team. Collaborative Law is a divorce
process that involves mental health professionals, attorneys,
and financial specialists working together to assist the divorcing
couple in achieving a successful resolution of their issues in
such a way as to minimize economic, social and emotional consequences
to the couple and their children.
